Settlement to City NOW – April, 2014 The Farmington Museum invites you to view an expansive display of historic and contemporary photography at this new exhibit. Farmington has changed dramatically over the years. Experience a slice of Farmington's past in comparison to what it is today. This unique exhibit uses both photography and historic objects to show the evolution of Farmington from small agricultural settlement to the bustling city of today. The Farmington Museum is located at 3041 E. Main St. in Farmington, NM. Wetlands Winter NOW – February 28, 2014 Come to the Riverside Nature Center, in Animas Park off Browning Parkway, for this photography exhibit. Bald eagles, mule deer bucks, unusual ducks, and animal tracks in the snow are some of the special things to see in winter in our river parks. The Riverside Nature Center is exhibiting photos of winter scenes and wildlife from our collections through February, 2014. Most of these photographs are the work of local photographers, who have helped document the seasons in Animas Park. Call for Entries – 2014 Gateway to Imagination: A National Juried Art Competition NOW until March 15, 2014 Attention artists! Get your work prepared for entry into the 2014 Gateway to Imagination: A National Juried Art Competition. The show will take place at the Farmington Museum from May 10 - July 12, 2014. All media accepted, open to artists 18 years and older, artwork must have been completed after January 1, 2013. The show will award $2,750 in cash prizes. There is a $35 entry fee for a maximum of 2 digital files. The entry deadline is March 15, 2014 and the prospectus can be found online at www.farmingtonmuseum.org. Swimming Lesson Registration Starting at 8:00 a.m. Friday, January 31 Registration starts at 8:00 a.m. at the Farmington Aquatic Center, 1151 N. Sullivan, until classes are full. Remember – you can register online beginning at 8:00 a.m. on registration day by going to www.fmtn.org/aquatics, under the Quick Links tab on the right. Classes run four weeks for two days a week starting February 3. Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Thursday in the morning for Preschool and Tuesday/Thursday evening for Preschool and Levels. Chinese New Year Celebration 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Saturday, February 1 Come celebrate the Year of the Horse with the Farmington Museum System at the Riverside Nature Center, in Animas Park off Browning Parkway. Come dressed in your lucky red and gold clothes and be prepared to horse around with fun crafts, activities, and live horse demonstrations. Pour a plaster-cast horse hoof, listen to a traditional story, decorate cookies, construct a glittering paper lantern, make a new year wish on the Wishing Tree, and more! Info: (505) 599-1174 ---PAGE BREAK--- Call for Entries for the March Community Photo Show February 1 – 28 To participate in the annual March community photo show at the Riverside Nature Center, in Animas Park off Browning Parkway, people should bring in their pictures taken in Animas or Berg Parks during the month of February. The show will be on display from March 4 through April 19. Each photographer may bring up to 5 prints, which should be at least 5x7, and matted or framed. For more information, call 599-1422. Tax Aide Counseling 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. Mondays and Thursdays by Appointment starting Monday, February 3 Come to the Senior Center Annex at 208 N. Wall St. to get ax Aide assistance for senior citizens 50+ years of age, who are middle and low-income taxpayers. You can stop by the Annex to pick up a list of the paper work you will need to bring to the appointment. The counselors are volunteers and they are dedicated to helping the senior community.
