Toddler Playdate Wednesday • 10am-12pm Playdates are designed for families with young children to develop early motor skills and find new playmates. Visit Tot’s Turf and join us in a fun and engaging activity. Activities are offered each week to encourage children’s imaginations and exploration of the world around them. Over 150 species of birds have been seen in Animas and Berg Parks, and this is your chance to see some of them. Bring your binoculars and bird book, or borrow some at the Nature Center. Come early for coffee and to observe birds at the feeders before the walk begins. Brown Bag Birding Thursdays • 12pm-1pm Bring your lunch and join us in the observation room to watch wildlife as we eat while overlooking the wetlands. Anyone needing handicapped access may drive to the parking area right outside the building. Farmington’s Own Johnny Appleseed Saturday • October 4 • 10am-11am Bart Wilsey, director of the Farmington Museum, will dramatize the pioneer who started it all, as we enjoy the Heritage Orchard east of Harvest Grove Barn. Come prepared to be outdoors and bring a chair if you wish for this presentation which is designed for all ages. ---PAGE BREAK--- Flintknapping and Ancient Hunters Saturday • November 1 • 1pm-3pm Frank Bowman, a flint knapper who makes stone weapons using the techniques and styles of ancient hunters, will be demonstrating his craft. Mr. Bowman uses stone and antler tools to make points of all types and sizes, while explaining his craft and the way in which ancient people hunted and lived. This is your chance to see a fine demonstration and ask questions. A few samples may be available for sale. Moonlight Walk Saturday • November 8 • 7pm-8:30pm Come and enjoy the park by moonlight on this walk of about two miles along the Animas River. We will look for nocturnal animals, and see the moon sparkle on the river. Bring a flashlight, but we hope the moon will supply all our illumination. Dress for the weather. Children should be old enough to understand walking quietly. No pets, please. Stars and Stories Saturday • November 22 • 7pm-8:30pm This evening walk is an opportunity to learn stars, constellations, and the which help remember them on a stroll through Animas Park. Dress for the weather, and bring a flashlight. Binoculars are helpful. Children should be old enough to understand listening quietly. No pets, please. Autumn Nature Walk Thursday • November 20 • 10am-11:30am Join an experienced guide for a walk in Animas and Berg Parks to enjoy autumn colors and wildlife. Learn about the plants, birds, and trees as we walk the trails and the garden, and, if you wish, bring your lunch to eat in the Nature Center afterwards. Nature Center continued….. Garden Volunteers Day Saturday • October 11 • 9am-1pm Would you like to learn more about herbs, native plants, and Xeri- scape landscaping? Or do you just enjoy gardening? Come and help prepare the Nature Center Xeriscape Demonstration Gar- dens for fall. There are tasks for everyone, whatever your skills or physical abilities. Friends of the Nature Center Fall Gathering Friday • October 17 • 6pm-8pm The fall gathering is a great time to join, or to renew your membership, as well as enjoy food and fellowship with other members. New and renewing members get a coupon for a special discount at all Museum stores during the next week. Come find out what was accomplished during the summer, future plans, and enjoy views of whatever wildlife comes in view outside our windows. RSVP at 599-1422, so we order enough pizza. Sunrise Walk Saturday • October 25 • 7am-8:30am Some of the wildlife in Animas Park are most interesting just at sunrise. Come walk the park trails and enjoy the beginning of the day on a refreshing fall morning. Coffee and hot chocolate will be ready at the Nature Center when we begin; bring your own breakfast munchies for the trail walk if you wish. Dress warmly and bring binoculars if you have them. No pets, please. Annual Member Appreciation Day: One Great Day of Shopping Saturday • November 8 • 10am – 4pm The Farmington Museum and the Farmington Museum Foundation will host their annual One Great Day of Shopping event as part of its membership appreciation day at the Farmington Museum at Gateway Park. There will be a wide variety of items on sale, entertainment, book-signings, and more. During the event, Farmington Museum Foundation new and renewing 2015 members may enjoy a 30% discount on purchases from the museum gift store, Currents. Current 2014 members may enjoy a 20% discount on purchases from Currents. These discounts are off the regular non-member price and good only for the day. Made in New Mexico: Movie Westerns in the Land of Enchantment Saturday • November 8 • 2pm – 4pm New Mexico is a mecca for movies! On Saturday, November 8 from 2pm to 4pm the Farmington Museum will be hosting a FREE presentation by film historian Jeff Berg that explores just a few of the Westerns filmed in the Land of Enchantment. Film clips in the presentation will include: Billy the Kid (1930), The Outlaw (1943), The Left Handed Gun (1958), Hang ‘Em High (1968), Cowboy Way (1994), and All the Pretty Horses (2000). This program is appropriate for people 13+ years, as some film clips contain PG-13 content. For more information, please call 599-1169. Holiday Papercrafting Workshops for Adults December 1-5 • 6pm – 8:30pm Handmade paper crafts are an inexpensive and creative way to make beautiful gifts and decorations for the holidays! Knocking It Out of The Park: Celebrating 50 Years of Connie Mack Exhibit Dates • July 26 – November 1 Fifty years ago, a delegation of Farmington businessmen traveled to the American Amateur Baseball Congress Annual Meeting in Chicago in what many thought was a futile effort to bid on the 1965 Connie Mack World Series. The delegation presented a convincing story and won the bid by one vote. 2014 marks the 50th year Farmington has hosted the Connie Mack World Series. Lost Egypt: Ancient Secrets, Modern Science September 27th – January 4th Unearth the secrets of an ancient Egyptian world in an interactive exhibition at the Farmington Museum featuring the hidden stories and artifacts of a lost civilization. See a real human mummy, animal mummies, plus scans, forensic facial reconstructions, and for the first time ever, a life-size rapid prototype of a human mummy. Interpret ancient Egyptian art, decipher and examine material remains using the tools and technology of archaeologists to unearth the mysteries of Egypt, its history, culture, and people. Lost Egypt was produced by COSI in cooperation with the Science Museum Exhibit Collaborative, and was built by the Science Museum of Minnesota.
