Settlement to City NOW – April, 2014 The Farmington Museum invites you to view an expansive display of historic and contemporary photography at this new exhibit. Farmington has changed dramatically over the years. Experience a slice of Farmington's past in comparison to what it is today. This unique exhibit uses both photography and historic objects to show the evolution of Farmington from small agricultural settlement to the bustling city of today. The Farmington Museum is located at 3041 E. Main St. in Farmington, NM. Wetlands Winter NOW – February 28, 2014 Come to the Riverside Nature Center, in Animas Park off Browning Parkway, for this photography exhibit. Bald eagles, mule deer bucks, unusual ducks, and animal tracks in the snow are some of the special things to see in winter in our river parks. The Riverside Nature Center is exhibiting photos of winter scenes and wildlife from our collections through February, 2014. Most of these photographs are the work of local photographers, who have helped document the seasons in Animas Park. Call for Entries – 2014 Gateway to Imagination: A National Juried Art Competition NOW until March 15, 2014 Attention artists! Get your work prepared for entry into the 2014 Gateway to Imagination: A National Juried Art Competition. The show will take place at the Farmington Museum from May 10 - July 12, 2014. All media accepted, open to artists 18 years and older, artwork must have been completed after January 1, 2013. The show will award $2,750 in cash prizes. There is a $35 entry fee for a maximum of 2 digital files. The entry deadline is March 15, 2014 and the prospectus can be found online at www.farmingtonmuseum.org. Christmas Tree Recycling 8:00 a.m.– 5:00 p.m. each day NOW – Sunday, January 12 Farmington Clean & Beautiful encourages you to think green while your Christmas tree fades. Bring natural Christmas trees to either of two locations and drop them off to be recycled during daylight hours. Trees will be collected at Berg Park (in the dirt lot behind Washington Federal Bank) on San Juan Blvd. and at Fire Station 5 on 30th St. near Butler Ave. Trees must be free of all foreign material – if the tree didn’t grow it, it must be removed before the tree is dropped off. Farmington Regional Animal Shelter Ribbon Cutting! 11:30 a.m. Friday, January 10 The City of Farmington Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs would like to invite the community to a Ribbon Cutting of the much awaited Farmington Regional Animal Shelter. Join the Farmington Red Coats, City Officials, dignitaries, and donors for this special event. The new Farmington Regional Animal Shelter is located at 133 Browning Parkway, Farmington, NM 87401. Applications available for Miss Indian Farmington 2014-2015 Friday, January 10, 2014 Applications will be taken starting on Friday, January 10, through Friday, June 6, 2014 for the Miss Indian Farmington 2014 competition. The event will be held at the Farmington Civic Center on Friday, June 13 from 5:30 – 9:00 p.m. so mark your calendars. Eligibility requires the applicant be 12-18 years old, a Farmington resident, and to provide proof of tribal enrollment. Making Tracks 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 11 Meet at the Riverside Nature Center, in Animas Park off Browning Pkwy. Take a walk through Animas Park looking for tracks and traces of the animals who live here. If weather permits, make a plaster cast of a track to take home. Nature Center staff and volunteers will help everyone learn more about the wildlife of the park. Jamie Frye, with the Alzheimer’s Association, will be providing free presentations on the third Wednesday of each month starting on January 15 and to continue through June 25. The first topic will be the Basics of Alzheimer’s. The topic for February 19 will be Conversations about Dementia. The topic for March 19 will be Know the 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s. Info: (505) 599-1174 Call for Entries for the March Community Photo Show February 1 – 28 To participate in the annual March community photo show at the Riverside Nature Center, in Animas Park off Browning Parkway, people should bring in their pictures taken in Animas or Berg Parks during the month of February. Wall St. to get ax Aide assistance for senior citizens 50+ years of age, who are middle and low-income taxpayers.
