DATE: March 5, 2015 NEWS FROM: City of Farmington Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs 901 Fairgrounds Rd, Farmington, NM www.fmtn.org/prca FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Farmington Tennis Court Resurfacing The City of Farmington’s Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs (PRCA) will begin tennis court resurfacing upgrades at the Farmington Sports Complex on May 4, 2015. This project will continue for approximately 4 weeks. The Sports Complex tennis courts will be closed during the time of resurfacing. The Farmington Sports Complex tennis courts are constructed with 5” of concrete overlaid with 1/2” layer of asphalt. The deteriorating 1/2“ asphalt layer will be completely removed from all eight courts and the concrete bases will be cleaned, resurfaced, and repainted. The City of Farmington has met with consultants to determine the best solutions for improving court conditions and playability, both short and long term. All tennis courts need maintenance and resurfacing, consequently this current process should help to extend the resurfacing projects from happening every two to three years, to five to seven years. In an effort to maintain these public-use facilities and to be mindful of the safety of our citizens and community, Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs commits to keep improvement projects of this nature going forward in the years to come. The Farmington Sports Complex is located at 2301 W. Pinon Hills Blvd., Farmington, NM 87401. For more information contact the City of Farmington’s Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs at (505) 599-1197 or go to www.fmtn.org/prca. SPOTLIGHT ON LEISURE: As spring gets closer and the weather starts warming up, consider the benefits of being more physically active. You might have greater energy and stamina. You may even reduce your chances for developing diseases, such as depression, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, stroke, and some kinds of cancer. Aim for at least 2½ hours each week of moderate-intensity physical activity. Try it! Choose activities you enjoy, such as swimming, walking fast, dancing, and even yard work. ABOUT PARKS, RECREATION, & CULTURAL AFFAIRS – The vision for the City of Farmington’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs (PRCA) is dedicated to providing the opportunity for citizens to play, to laugh, to grow, to learn and to engage in enriching their quality of life.
