Planned annexation brings areas on the edges of Farmington into the City so that there can be an orderly extension of City services such as roads, water and sewer. Additionally, the City has limited authority out- side the City to regulate develop- ment through land use regula- tions, design standards and building permits which protect properties. Residents of annexed areas are eligible to vote for City officials, including the Mayor and City Council members. Residents can run for City office and serve on City boards and commis- sions. Fire Protection and Paramedics If annexed, the City of Farmington Fire Depart- ment will supply fire protection for your home and business. The City of Farmington Fire De- partment has an Insurance Services Organization (ISO) rating of 3 (1 is the highest and 10 the lowest). This rating may reduce your fire insur- ance premium. The services of the Fire Depart- ment and the departments EMT’s will be availa- ble to assist with any medical emergencies which may occur. They continue to meet the standards to remain accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). In 2012, the depart- ment was awarded a Gold Standard Certificate of Re- accreditation. Learn more at Wastewater Services The City of Farmington operates a wastewater (sewer) collection and treatment system. Annexation into the City will provide access to public sewer. Solid Waste Management Regular, scheduled pick-up services for garbage and other contained refuse is provided at in-city cost. In addition, uncontained trash and household hazardous waste collections are sponsored twice a year. Zoning and Building Protection The City provides protection of the environment, your life style, your home, your business, and your property values, through planning, zoning and building ordi- nances. The Building Inspection Division has an ISO rating of 2. The City also provides nuisance abatement services which protects and enhances your property values and protects you from nuisances. Street Maintenance Dedicated and improved streets are maintained by the City, including street lighting, pothole repair, resurfacing, restriping, installation of street signs, and snow plowing for collector & arterial streets. Fully improved streets are cleaned regularly. Parks and Library Service The City provides public park and recreation fa- cilities, such as the Farmington Recreation Center, Sycamore Park Center, soccer and baseball fields. You will be able to enjoy the view along the Ani- mas River from the Riverside Trail and take swimming lessons from the Farmington Aquatic Center. The Farmington Public Library offers many free services to its cardholders. In addition to check- ing out books and DVDs, the library provides wifi and public computers, computer classes and pro- grams for all ages.
