CITY OF FARMINGTON Volunteer Service Description Library Adult Services Volunteer Book Group Liaison Title Four Corners Storytelling Festival Volunteer Pay Class Volunteer – Unpaid Commitment Friday or Saturday; 2 to 4 hour shift Number of positions Varies Department/Division Library Latest Review Date 7/2014 Personnel Review Department Review K. McPheeters Job Duties: Works under the supervision of the Youth Services Coordinator. Festival Host; 8am-noon; noon -3pm; designated to an individual tent Greet volunteers and festival goers as they arrive, make sure volunteers sign in, instruct volunteers on how to wear their lanyards (if required) and other related duties. Distribute assignments to the volunteers and their ticket. Hand out festival schedule. Direct to tent locations – walk with them if necessary. Share information about youth storytellers. Hospitality Tent Monitor; 8am-noon; noon -3pm; designated to an individual tent Maintain the tent area for the tellers while they are at the festival, ensure the tent is peaceful and that festival goers do not disturb the tellers (apart from teller guests), set out meals and refreshments, assists Storyteller Hosts. Take additional water, coffee, etc. to tent locations. Clean up between sessions when the tellers are not there. Do not be in the tent with the tellers, just make yourself available. Tent Monitor and Clean Up Crew / Site Help; 8am-noon; noon -3pm; designated to an individual tent Reports to Tent Manager Check registration wrist bands and teacher/group list for entry into the tent during field trip day. Arrange chairs, set up tables for sound and stage. Check tickets on wrist and teacher packets. Seat students in an organized manner on field trip day, guide festival goers so that no seats are left empty, assist teachers during water breaks, assist the emcee and teachers with exiting the tents, assist with the dismissal of the students, and other related duties. Bring festival materials to tent if needed from volunteer tent, pick up trash, straighten up chairs in tent, pack up the sound equipment, fold table skirts and put them into boxes, pack up power cords and lighting equipment, answer questions, and other related duties. ---PAGE BREAK--- CITY OF FARMINGTON Volunteer Service Description Library Adult Services Volunteer Book Group Liaison Tent Manager (see also Tent Monitor and Clean UP Crew/Site Help); 8am-noon; noon - 3pm; designated to an individual tent Supervises tent monitors Be point of contact between assigned tent and the rest of the festival, use a cell phone (keep on vibrate) to receive important information and instructions, ensure that the audience stays respectful and make sure children remain in their seats, enforce the “no pictures or recordings” rule and make sure ONLY those wearing a press pass or parents of student tellers take pictures, straighten chairs, pick up trash in between sessions, and other related duties. Refer to clipboard for important phone numbers.  Various Shifts  Greets the school buses and/or organizations scheduled for the festival at Berg Park  Direct the group to tent they have registered for at the festival The duties listed above are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. Qualifications: This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Policy.  Must be available to work various shifts  Must enjoy working with youth and families.  Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the public.  Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public on all age levels and cultural backgrounds, both verbally and in writing.  Ability to perform routine duties as assigned with little supervision.  Ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions.  Ability to work under stress and handle stressful situations.  Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.
