DATE: April 24, 2015 NEWS FROM: City of Farmington Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs 901 Fairgrounds Rd, Farmington, NM www.fmtn.org/prca FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE New Farmington River Trail Markers The City of Farmington's Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs (PRCA) Department, Fire Department, and Police Department have developed and installed a new trail marking system along the Animas River. These trail markers will provide emergency response teams and trail users a way to pinpoint locations along the main river trail system. Red trail markers are on the north side (river right) and blue trail markers are on the south side (river left). The numbering system begins with 0.000 at the Animas and San Juan River confluence. As you travel east from the confluence along the Animas River, markers are located on developed trails approximately every 1/8 mile (660 feet). For example, a marker reading 3.250 means you are located approximately 3 1/4 miles east of the confluence. Using GIS and GPS technology- Fire. Police, and Parks have mapping showing each marker location. As future development of river trails continue, any new trail will be able to seamlessly fit into this trail marker system. In an effort to promote a safe outdoor recreational environment, Farmington PRCA, Fire, and Police are committed to continuous future development of this project. You may even reduce your chances for developing diseases, such as depression, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, stroke, and some kinds of cancer. Aim for at least 2½ hours each week of moderate-intensity physical activity. Try it! Choose activities you enjoy, such as swimming, walking fast, dancing, and even yard work.
