Records Disaster Recovery and Mitigation City of Farmington, NM Information Technology Department The City of Farmington’s enterprise resource planning software and the City’s public safety information system are hosted on IBM midrange servers running the IBM i operating system. These servers house data critical to the operation of the City and instrumental to public safety agencies throughout San Juan County. For the sake of disaster recovery and mitigation, the City uses two IBM midrange servers, one operating as the production system and the other providing offsite redundancy. Data redundancy is accomplished using MIMIX replication software provided by Vision Solutions Inc. In the event that the production server becomes unavailable due to disaster or other circumstances, we can switch the role of the backup server to production. This is not an instantaneous event, but a process requiring hours or longer to perform the switch, dependant in part on whether power and networking infrastructure are also affected. In addition to this offsite redundancy, backup data is written to tape after each business day. This data can be restored to either or both servers as necessary. The most recent daily backups are stored in a fireproof data safe at a second offsite facility, with duplicates stored in an onsite fireproof data safe.
