It was suggested that Mr. Frank Stimick and the Farmington School District office be made aware of this event. MPO Staff will make some calls to the local school districts to gather additional support for the SRTS event. Mrs. Wakan said the last day of school was May 30. With schools out for the summer, the Safe Routes to School meetings will be held at the MPO Office. The Super Hero Kidfest at McGee Park is scheduled for June 7 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Mrs. Wakan asked for volunteers to help with the SRTS table and she hoped that Eddie Eagle would also be able to participate. She said this has been a huge event in the past. Mrs. Wakan said the open houses at the schools should begin in August. She hoped to be able to get parents willing to sign up to lead walking school buses during the open houses. The Road Apple Rally is in October and Mrs. Wakan hoped to have a bike rodeo in conjunction with this event. She is looking to apply for some grant money for bikes and, possibly, a trailer from Blue Cross/Blue Shield. ENGINEERING: Mr. Krest reported that two of the construction projects had to be re-bid due to administrative errors. Those were the raised crosswalk on Monterey (McKinley) and the HAWK pedestrian device on College Boulevard (Mesa Verde). Although delayed, Mr. Krest was optimistic that these projects would still receive approval. The other projects were on track to be completed this summer. Mr. Krest will be retiring from the City of Farmington on June 30. He added that he would also be out of town for the June SRTS meeting. Although advertised for several months, there has been no candidate selected to fill his position. At the last meeting, Mrs. Wakan reported that the City of Farmington had decided not to budget for the SRTS coordinator position. MPO Staff will speak with their Planning Liaison, Brian Degani, to see if any funding options are available through the MPO. It is also hoped that Mr. Ping with WALC will have some recommendations to keep this position funded. ENFORCEMENT: Officer DeLese reported on some upcoming changes within the Police Department. The new Police Chief has decided that the position of SRO Lead Coordinator would be held by a Corporal. Officer DeLese hoped to keep as many school and safety-related duties as possible going forward. ---PAGE BREAK--- Safe Routes to School Draft Minutes May 8, 2014 EVALUATION: Ms. Markle reported on some of the results from the spring student arrival counts.
