Commercial Daycare & Medical Care Handout (2019) Page 1 of 1 C I T Y O F E V E R E T T Permit Services COMMERCIAL DAYCARE AND MEDIC AL CARE HANDOUT Religious Instruction (A-3) Per IBC 305.2.1 and IBC 308.6.2 Use: Within places of religious worship during religious functions. Educational Per IBC 305.2, IBC 308.6.1 for custodial care, or IBC 305.2.2 for less than five children Use: Educational, supervision, custodial or personal care services Duration: Fewer than 24 hours per day Number: Six or more children but less than 100. Age: Older than 2.5 years, or less than 2.5 years with additional egress requirements. Institutional (I-4) Per IBC 308.6 Use: Custodial care outside of adult home by persons other than parents or guardians. Number: Six or more adults of any age. Duration: Less than 24 hours Institutional (I-2) Per IBC 308.4 Use: Medical care (includes foster care) Number: At least six people who are incapable of self-preservation Duration: 24 hour basis Institutional (I-1) Per IBC 308.3 Use: Custodial care (includes group homes) Number: More than 16 persons, excluding staff, capable of self-preservation with limited assistance. Duration: 24 hour basis Residential (R-3) or in a single family home Either per IBC 305.2.3 or IRC R326 in a single family home for Family Home Childcare or R325 for an Adult Family Home Use: Educational, supervision, personal care, medical care, or custodial services. Number: Varies per classification of building and care provided. Exits Per IBC table 1004.1.2 ‘daycare use’ and IBC 1015.6 . Two exits or exit access doorways required for more than 10 children 2.5 years of age or less, per calculated occupant load for the area of day care use. Suppression and Detection Per Everett Municipal Code Section (EMC) 16.76 for change of occupancy, or Educational (IBC 903.2.3 and 907.2.3); Institutional (IBC 903.2.6 and 907.2.6); Residential (IBC 308.4.2, IBC 903.2.8 and 907.2.11.2)*, whichever is more stringent. Seismic analysis, accessibility to the facility and energy code improvements may also be triggered.
