N E W S R E L E A S E FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 8, 2015 Contact: Meghan Pembroke, communications director, [PHONE REDACTED] Marla Carter, public works information manager, [PHONE REDACTED] Broadway Bridge reopens ahead of schedule Some restrictions will remain in place through spring EVERETT – Crews are completing work on the new Broadway Bridge and will open it to traffic on Tuesday, Dec. 8, several months ahead of schedule. The city’s contractor, Interwest Construction, will remove detour barriers and begin opening the bridge to traffic and pedestrians the afternoon of Dec. 8, weather permitting. The bridge was originally scheduled to reopen in March 2016. “We’re pleased to open the bridge in time for the holidays,” said Mayor Ray Stephanson. “We appreciate everyone’s patience during this challenging, critical project.” Drivers should proceed with caution on Broadway between Wall Street and Everett Avenue as traffic returns to normal travel patterns and drivers adjust to traffic and signal revisions. Crews will be making signal timing adjustments over the next few months. Work will continue on the bridge as crews install lighting and a permanent pedestrian barrier. The bridge will be closed to parking and drivers and pedestrians can expect temporary lane and sidewalk closures until the work is complete. Crews closed the Broadway Bridge to traffic on Jan. 30, 2015 while they demolished and replaced the 102-year-old bridge and built a new bridge from the foundation up. The total project budget, including design and construction, is $13.6 million. For more information on the Broadway Bridge project, please visit: everettwa.gov/broadwaybridge.
