Signature Date Guardian Date ---PAGE BREAK--- El Cerrito Police Department Police Explorer Unit Requirements for Explorers 1. Age: Must be between the ages of 14 and 18 years to join. Explorers may remain active in the Post until their 21st birthday. 2. Gender: Both males and females are eligible 3. Criminal Record: Having a criminal record does not necessarily disqualify a person from being an Explorer. The seriousness of the offense and the age at the time of the offense will be taken into consideration. A complete background investigation will be conducted on each applicant. 4. Uniform and grooming: All Police Explorers are required to maintain proper dress and grooming standards when involved in Police functions. This includes keeping their hair trimmed, neat and clean. Explorers must keep their uniforms in proper condition, and when functioning out of uniform, must dress neatly. The uniform will consist of navy blue pant, light blue uniform shirt, black shoes/boots and belt. The department will purchase the uniform, however the Explorer is responsible for picking it up and providing their own shoes/boots. 5. Commitment: The El Cerrito Police Explorer Post conducts many activities for the department and for the community. To carry out these activities, all members of the Post are expected to donate time each month. A major role of the Explorer is to assist the various branches of the Police Department, including Patrol, Investigations and Administration. The amount of time worked each month may vary, but Explorers are required to work a minimum of 12 hours per month, calculated quarterly. 6. Conduct: All Explorers are required to conduct themselves in a professional and courteous manner at all times. Explorers are required to obey all rules and regulations of the Post and the Police Department, including all general orders, policies and procedures. Explorers are also expected to abide by their school rules and the laws of the State of California. Failure to do so may be cause for disciplinary action and/or dismissal from the Post.
