Greetings Ms. Iarla, My name is Malika Crutchfield, and I am a Bay Area-based artist and community advocate. I would love to be considered as a featured artist of the city all gallery space. Artist Statement, taken from website: Malika Zwanya Crutchfield, MA, RRW, is a Bay Area-based artist, educator, and community advocate. Her photography focuses on phenomena in the natural world, urban life in the 21st century, and the intersection between the two. Artist Biography, taken from website: Over the last decade, Malika has worked as a journalist for online news outlets and as photo editor for educational publishing houses, has edited culturally responsive textbooks for pre-K through 2nd grade, and published original history, social studies, and language arts curriculum for grades K-12. Malika has a BA in writing and cultural studies from Sarah Lawrence College, and earned a Master of Arts degree in African Diaspora Studies from UC Berkeley in 2008. In 2014, she became a Registered Recovery Worker of CAADAC. Malika has taught at elementary and middle school schools in the United States and Thailand. A long-time practitioner of mindfulness and vipassana meditation, she is dedicated to helping people cultivate new forms of agency, spirituality, and wisdom in their lives and in their interpersonal relationships with others. By using and transmitting these ancient yogic techniques, Malika helps clients navigate their location in society by examining and developing their inner worlds. A licensed Vinyasa yoga instructor from New York/San Francisco’s Laughing Lotus Yoga, Malika developed and teaches original mindfulness and meditation curriculum for kids ages 5 and up, women who are survivors of trauma, and individuals who have family members who are incarcerated.
