QUESTIONS & ANSWERS REGARDING City of El Cerrito Arts in Public Places Program Public Art for the City of El Cerrito Recycling and Environmental Resource Center Regarding Shelving and other elements for the new Exchange Zone, the artist should provide the equivalent of 500 linear feet of 12” deep (=500 square feet) or more. Shelving should be a minimum of 10” deep, and a maximum of 30” deep. The majority of shelving (up to 80%) should be within the range of 12” to 24” deep. The relative distribution of shelving depths/sizes should be informed by the community involvement process and the sizes and types of materials to be exchanged on the shelves. The architectural drawings and dimensions are for reference only. Alternative configurations that meet all ADA, universal design, and other functional requirements will be considered. Regarding the Gates / doors for Compost and Mulch materials storage bays, the intention of the gate for the mulch and compost bays is to provide a vertical barrier at the front of the bays to prevent patrons from taking compost or mulch without permission. A front gate for the 2 bays is all that is required; they do not need to be covered (though solutions that include covers would not be excluded). The gate should be fully securable, lockable via heavy duty padlock, easy to operate by one person, a minimum 48’ high, and not higher than the existing walls of the bays (at their lowest points). Existing signage in the bays will need to be relocated to the visible face of the gate (since they will not be visible in their current location after gate installation). The gate section for each bay should slide on heavy duty casters, such that when the section for one bay is fully opened it is directly in front of the adjacent bay. Additionally, both sections of gate (one section in front of each bay) should be able to slide to the mid-point of the gate, such that ½ of each bay (the farthest left and right sections) could be accessible at once. The City has added an additional optional Protective Shelter for Operational Equipment: Housing/Covers for exposed bolt/bolt plates at two uncovered bays. (The uncovered bays are for aluminum & steel collection. Artists may choose to include this and/or other listed additional functional artwork in their proposal if feasible within their project budget. Regarding the architectural shelving drawings included in the RFP, the architectural shelving drawings are included in the RFP for reference only and provide one possible layout. Alternate layouts may be proposed/preferred as long as they meet RFP guidelines and Americans with Disabilities Act and California Building Code guidelines. Regarding project compliance with ADA and the California Building Code, the project must comply with the ADA and Section 1106B.4 of the 2010 CBC. The final design must be approved by the Building Department for compliance. Quantity available: 18 The 1 cubic yard bins measure 22” height x 48” length x 48” wide. Quantity available: 6 Regarding submittals, artists should provide renderings. Specific design details will be finalized working in partnership with the City. Submittal can include up to ten (10) images of your proposed concept for this Project as renderings in digital format (.jpg). Posted online March 14, 2012
