Fall 2014 I Call us at (510) 559-7000 11 Events City News Facilities Youth/Teens Adults Seniors Swimming SUSTAINABLE LIVING ELECTIONS NOV. 4 Measure R Extension Funding Measure to Maintain Local Control Over Funding for City Services Although the economy is beginning to recover from the recession, the City is still facing a variety of fiscal and service delivery challenges, including the historical effects of Sacramento takeaways. In fact, El Cerrito has continued to lose over $1 million to the State each year over the past ten years, local funds taken by the State to address its own budget deficits. After receiving feedback from the community, the City Council decided to place an extension of Measure R at the one-cent sales tax rate on the November 2014 ballot to continue to address these critical needs. Measure R was previously approved by local voters four years ago. If extended at the one cent rate for 12 years (until 2027) this funding would stay in El Cerrito and only be used to maintain vital city services, giving El Cerrito local control over local funds for local needs. Visit www.el-cerrito.org to learn more about the City’s finances and how the City plans to meet these needs. If you have any questions, you may also call the City Manager’s Office at 215-4318.
