Work Schedule: 37.5 hours per week. Vacation: 11 working days after one year of service; additional days earned with additional years of service. Holidays: 14 1/2 paid holidays per year. Sick Leave: Sick leave is accrued at the rate of 8.75 hours per calendar month. Short and Long Term Disability: City pays full cost of employee’s premium. Health Plans: Choice of three plans: Kaiser, Health Net HMO and Health Net PPO. City contributes up to the family Kaiser premium per month. Dental Insurance: City contributes the full premium for the employee and family. Life Insurance: Amount equal to annual salary to nearest $1,000 (max $100,000). City-paid premium. Retirement: The City pays 5% and employee pays 3% of the member contribution to Public Employees Retirement System (2.7% at 55 for current members and 2% at 62 for new members, plan is Integrated with Social Security). The City and employee each pay own contribution to Social Security. Bilingual Pay: $50 per month for approved languages. Longevity Pay: $1,000 annually after completion of 15 or more years of service. This position is union represented and will require union fees. THE DEPARTMENT AND POSITION The Recreation Department provides a variety of recreational and educational activities for youth and adults as well as facility rentals. The Community Services Coordinator plans, organizes, directs and coordinates a variety of Community Services (Recreation) programs, which may include state-licensed school-age child care sites and programs for pre-school and school-age children, aquatics programs, senior center sites and programs for active and fail seniors, the rental of community facilities, instructional classes and various recreation projects, summer programs, and City-wide special events on a year-round basis for participants of all ages. All assignments require a knowledge of the provision of recreation and community services to a variety of age groups, the ability to organize and oversee the work of others, a strong customer-service orientation and the skill to relate to a variety of individuals, families and groups from various socio-economic backgrounds. This position receives general supervision from a Recreation Supervisor. The current vacancy exists in Aquatics. THE “IDEAL” COMMUNITY SERVICES COORDINATOR The City is looking for an individual who can demonstrate clearly that he/she has the following background and competencies: EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Experience: Equivalent to one year of full-time experience in the development and Implementation of community service, childcare or recreation programs. Experience in directing the work of others is desirable. Education: Depending upon assignment, graduation from high school or its equivalent and EITHER: fifteen college-level semester units in early childhood education, child development or a related field, OR equivalent units earned toward any combination of a major in recreation or physical education, with an emphasis on activities for elementary school children; OR possession of a bachelor’s degree in recreation, education or a field related to the work. License/Certificates/Other Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid California class C driver’s license. For the licensed childcare assignment, must possess, or be able to obtain, within one year of employment, certification as a licensed school-age childcare site director issued by the State of California. Must possess and maintain first-aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation certifications. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of principles, practices and service delivery needs related to the program area(s) to which assigned, which may include early childhood education, active and frail seniors activities, specialized arts programs and sports and recreation programs for youth and other ages; Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures, including record keeping, business mathematics and basic computer applications related to the work; Ability to plan, develop, organize, direct, coordinate and evaluate a variety of community service, childcare, senior and recreation programs; Ability to plan, schedule, assign, direct, review and evaluate the work of staff and volunteers; lead and direct a variety of activities; interpret, apply and explain policies, procedures and regulations.
