Mailed on 01/08/13 Public Works Department – Engineering Division 10890 San Pablo Avenue, El Cerrito, CA 94530 (510) 215-4382 – FAX (510) 233-5401 www.el-cerrito.org PROJECT & MEETING NOTICE Arlington Boulevard at Madera and Brewster Drives Safe Routes to School Safety Improvements The City of El Cerrito, Public Works Department invites you to attend a meeting to discuss the construction of safety improvements on Arlington Boulevard at Madera and Brewster Drives: Thursday, January 17, 2013 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Madera Elementary School, Multipurpose Room (8500 Madera Drive, El Cerrito) Public Works staff will discuss the project background, including design changes due to previous school and community input, and the project construction beginning later in January. Concerns and ideas about traffic circulation during school drop-off and pick-up periods will also be discussed. Project Description This project will improve safety for pedestrians, including students, walking to and from Madera Elementary School and across Arlington Boulevard. This route links several key destinations in the City including Madera Elementary School and Arlington Park. The project consists of the following specific improvements: o Installation of curb bulb-outs at the uncontrolled crosswalks on Arlington Drive at Madera and Brewster Drives; o Installation of new in-pavement flashing lights with pedestrian detection devices, enhanced pedestrian crosswalk warning signs with rectangular flashing beacons, and advanced flashing beacons and warning signs for the crosswalk at Madera Drive; and o Construction of ADA-compliant ramps at both intersections. Construction Schedule Construction of these improvements is anticipated between January 21, 2013 and February 22, 2013. Construction activities will be limited to the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, when Madera Elementary School is in session. When Madera Elementary School is not in session, the working hours will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. You will be notified at least two days before any work begins in front of your residence or any parking on your street is restricted.
