Dear Neighbors: As you know, BART recently completed its Earthquake Safety Program along the Ohlone Greenway. Seismic upgrade work was performed at both the El Cerrito Plaza Station, the El Cerrito del Norte Station, as well as to the columns supporting the elevated track. The final phase of the project included landscaping along the Ohlone Greenway in El Cerrito. The new landscaping is currently under a one-year plant establishment and maintenance contract managed by BART, which includes compliance with the City of El Cerrito’s Integrated Pest Management Policy. Notices were previously posted about a scheduled application of a City-approved selective broad-leaf weed suppressant, Fiesta (FeHEDTA)* to take place on October 20-22, 2014 as part of the landscape mainte- nance plan and the effort to control weeds in the newly planted areas. In response to questions from the community, BART has postponed the application. BART and the City of El Cerrito invite the public to attend an informational meeting regarding the landscape maintenance plan for the Ohlone Green- way at City Hall on November 22, 2014 at 10:00 am. Staff from both BART and City will be available at the meeting to answer questions. If you have questions about the community meeting or the landscaping maintenance plan, please contact Tom Horton at [EMAIL REDACTED] or [PHONE REDACTED]. *Fiesta Turf Weed Killer whose active ingredient is Iron HEDTA (Iron Chelate) was approved by the City of El Cerrito for limited use by BART in managing broadleaf weeds located in the newly seeded native fescue grass stands. Iron is a ubiquitous inorganic element in the environment. This reduced risk selective weed suppressant is used by multiple public agencies that have comprehensive Integrated Pest Management programs. Treated areas are safe for people and pets when the product dries and Fiesta is rainfast 3 hours after application. Fiesta is used on a variety of sites, including lawns, golf courses, cemeteries and public right of ways, parks, school play grounds, day care centers and athletic fields. Based on the data reviewed by EPA, Iron HEDTA will not cause adverse effects to humans and other non-target organisms when used according to label directions.
