Agenda Item No. 7(A) RESOLUTION 2013-XX A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL CERRITO AMENDING RESOLUTION 97-99 AND ALL RESOLUTIONS AMENDATORY, SPECIFICALLY, SECTION 3(A) OF CITY COUNCIL MEETING RULES AND PROCEDURES, TO ELIMINATE THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE FROM AGENDA PREPARATION AND ORDER OF BUSINESS WHEREAS, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 97-99 on November 3, 1997, which adopted City Council Meeting Rules and Procedures and incorporated those rules and procedures into the council policies and administrative procedures manual; and WHEREAS, Resolution 97-99 was amended by Resolution 98-11 on March 2, 1998 to retitle Section 3 of Council Meeting Rules and Procedures as “Agenda Preparation and Order of Business” and to add a paragraph to allowing any councilmember to place items on the City Council agenda; and WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to eliminate the pledge of allegiance from the city council agenda and its usual order of business at City Council meetings. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of El Cerrito that it hereby amends its meeting rules and procedures as incorporated into Resolution No. 97–99 as amended, by amending Section 3(A) to read as follows (deleted language is illustrated with strike-out): Section III. Agenda Preparation and Order of Business A. The agenda for regular meetings shall provide for a roll call, the pledge of allegiance, oral communications from the public, adoption of the consent calendar, council/staff communications/announcements, scheduled public hearings, policy and non-policy matters, ordinances for introduction or adoption, council assignments/liaison reports, and such other business as may be appropriate.
