Work Schedule: 37.5 hours per week. Vacation: 11 working days after one year of service; additional days earned with additional years of service. Holidays: 15 1/2 paid holidays per year. Sick Leave: Sick leave is accrued at the rate of 8.75 hours per calendar month. Short and Long Term Disability: City pays full cost of employee’s premium. Health Plans: Choice of three plans: Kaiser, Health Net HMO and Health Net PPO. City contributes up to the family Kaiser premium per month. Dental Insurance: City contributes the full premium for the employee and family. Life Insurance: Amount equal to annual salary to nearest $1,000. City-paid premium. Retirement: The City pays employee’s 7% and employee pays 1% of the member contribution to Public Employees Retirement System (2.7% at 55 plan Integrated with Social Security). The City and employee each pay own contribution to Social Security. Bilingual Pay: $100 per month for approved languages. Longevity Pay: $1,000 annually after completion of 15 or more years of service. THE DEPARTMENT AND POSITION(S) The Recreation Program Supervisor I/II is a program section supervisor who has the responsibility over a broad area of program activities. The position is within the Recreation Department and reports to the Recreation Director and exercises direct supervision over full-time, part-time, seasonal employees and volunteer staff. The current vacancy is in the Adult/Community Services and Youth Services Divisions and a future vacancy is anticipated in the Senior Services Division. Appointment to Recreation Program Supervisor I/II will be commensurate with experience. Adult/Community Services & Youth Programs - vacancy These divisions provide a variety of recreational and educational activities including summer/day camps, afterschool programs, adult and youth classes, sports as well as facility rentals. The Supervisor assigned to Adult/ Community Services and Youth Services Divisions will oversee these program areas by offering social, physical and education opportunities for personal enrichment through recreation, leisure activities and special events. The supervisor will also take a lead role in the Recreation Department’s publicity and marketing activities. Senior Services - future vacancy This division offers excellent programs and services for adults 50 years and over. The Supervisor assigned to Senior Services will be responsible for overseeing programs and services that promote holistic improvement of overall health status and a productive, active, satisfying and healthy lifestyle. The supervisor is also responsible for the custodial maintenance function of the Recreation Department. THE “IDEAL” PROGRAM SUPERVISOR The City is looking for an individual who can demonstrate clearly that he/she has the following background and competencies: EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Experience: Four years of experience (including one year supervising and directing programs) in the imple- mentation of activities and programs in one or several for the following areas; recreation, aquatics, child care, or senior activities and programs. Level II requires two years of experience supervision and directing programs. Education: Bachelor’s degree or significant major course work towards a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major work in recreation, human development, sociology, gerontology, public administration, or related field. License: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License. Certification: Possession of, or ability to obtain special licensing or certification as required by assigned area of program activities. For aquatic program, need life- guarding/water safety instruction and first aid training. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of developing and implementing a variety of community services activities and programs for all ages and abilities. Knowledge of program content for specialized community recreation, aquatic, child care, day camp or senior activities. Demonstrated ability to coordinate, organize, and implement community services activities and specialized events. EVALUATION & SELECTION PROCESS Candidates are assessed by completed application and supplemental questionnaire. Those selected to continue in the recruitment process will then be invited to participate in an oral interview. Each selected candidate will meet with an appraisal panel to discuss his/her qualifications. Those persons deemed to be best qualified by the interview panel will have their names placed on an employment list which will be used by the Recreation Department for final interviews and appointment. Include any experience you have creating new programs, allocating resources and generating revenue. 2. Describe your computer experience and include any experience with website management, creating brochures and registration management. Also, summarize your experience working with RecTrac and/or other Recreation Management systems. 3. Describe your supervisory experience and include the number and level of staff you supervised. Include examples of your decision making authority and problem solving experience. 4. Describe your partnership/teamwork experience with outside agencies and organizations. Include any experience you have developing new programs and attracting community interest in the programs. 5. Describe your experience working with various community groups including: older adults, adults, youth, and other community services. Include experience with fee classes, sports, facility rentals, special events, and publicity/marketing.
