Agenda Item No. 4(A) EL CERRITO CITY COUNCIL PROCLAMATION Recognizing Girl Scout Troop 31352 for their outstanding contribution to the City for the beautification of the Tassajara Park Steps WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of the USA is the largest organization for girls in the world; and WHEREAS, the Girl Scouts develop their leadership potential through activities that enable them to discover their values, skills and the world around them; connect with others in a multicultural environment, and take action to make a difference in the world; and WHEREAS, early in 2013 Girl Scout Troop 31352 envisioned funding a community service project with earnings from their sale of Girl Scout cookies and contacted El Cerrito Trail Trekkers founder David Weinstein to help select a project site and consulted with Recreation and Parks Commissioner Robin Mitchell for California native plant selection and obtained the City’s authorization to proceed; and WHEREAS, the individual members of Girl Scout Troop 31352 each designed and planted one of nine planting squares on May 30, 2013 and agreed to water and care for the plants until they become established; and WHEREAS, each member of the troop has taken turns hand watering and caring for the plants all summer and have received a Junior Girl Scout Bronze Award for their service; and WHEREAS, the names of the girls in Troop 31352 who participated in this project are Jamie Brune, Margaret Campbell, Christina Fadelli, Elena Griedel, Sophie Hanin, Madison Kortz, Isabella Rubenaker, Victoria Tyler, Valencia White, their Troop Leader Maya Arechiga and Troop Co-Leader Bethany Campbell. NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of El Cerrito hereby commends Girl Scout Troop 31352 for its devotion to the Girl Scout mission and values. The City Council extends sincere appreciation to Girl Scout Troop 31352 for their innovative efforts to serve and beautify their community in the City of El Cerrito.
