Please describe in detail the extent of your experience in evaluating and adopting local and state building code regulations. Include any experience you may have with green building codes, sustainable construction, disabled access regulations, and energy conservation. 2. THE BUILDING DIVISION The Building Official is a key management position, leading the Building Division of the City’s Community Development Department. The Building Division provides customer service to assist residents, business owners, residential contractors and commercial developers so they can build in a manner that satisfies the health and safety regulations set forth by the California Building Code. THE POSITION The position receives administrative direction from the Development Services Manager. The Building Official is responsible for directing, supervising and coordinating the activities and operations of the Building Division including structural, electrical, plumbing and mechanical inspections; plan checking, issuing permits, code enforcement activities, interpreting code requirements, coordinating assigned activities with staff, other divisions, departments and outside agencies; and providing highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Development Services Manager. Posted 6/23/14 THE “IDEAL” BUILDING OFFICIAL  A strong leader, motivator, and team builder with proven skills in supervising and evaluating the work of others.  A proactive and inclusive approach to problem solving, project management and fiscal responsibility, as well as sound organization and communication skills.  Extremely well-versed in all technical, management and political aspects of a public agency building program, including inspections, plans examination, code interpretation, and code enforcement programs.  Demonstrated experience in management and ability to improve processes, procedures and systems, and will be a key player in the City’s established goal of sustainability and environmental stewardship. QUALIFICATIONS Experience: Five years of increasingly responsible experience in the inspection of public, commercial, industrial or residential buildings including at least two years of administrative and supervisory responsibility. Education: Associates degree (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering or a related field; Bachelor’s degree is a plus. License: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License. Certification: Possession of Building Official and Certi- fied Plans Examiner certificates issued by the Interna- tional Code Council are highly desirable. “The City of El Cerrito is an Equal Opportunity Employer” COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS Annual salary for this position is $91,944 - $114,936 depending on qualifications. Current benefit features include:  37.5 hour work week schedule with alternating Fridays off  CalPERS retirement (2.7% at 55 for current members and 2% at 62 for new members, plan is Integrated with Social Security).
