AGENDA BILL Agenda Item No. 5(E) Date: February 5, 2013 To: El Cerrito City Council From: Sukari Beshears, Human Resources Manager Subject: City Classification Plan Amendment ACTION REQUESTED Adopt a Resolution amending the City's Classification Plan to rev1se the class specification of Development Services Manager. BACKGROUND/ANALYSIS City Council approved the classification of Development Services Manager (DSM) on December 18, 2012. DSM was created to appropriately classify the Planning Manager position as a result of the reorganization and· restructure of the Planning and Building Divisions. After further review of the DSM classification, staff determined that additional upgrades are necessary to accurately reflect the needs of the position. Staff recommends updates to the educational requirement and job duties. Proposed changes to the DSM classification are reflected in the attachment. The DSM position is currently vacant and recruitment efforts are underway with a permanent selection anticipated in the next couple of months. FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS There will be no additional costs associated with the proposed changes to the Environmental and Development Services Department. Reviewed by: S~Z«::ager Attachments: 1. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council does hereby amends the City’s Classification Plan to revise the class specification for Development Services Manager, as specified in Exhibit A to this resolution. DEFINITION To direct, plan, manage and oversee the activities and operations of the Development Services, made up of Department including the bBuilding and pPlanning servicesDivisions, within the Environmental and Development Services Department; to coordinate assigned activities with other departments and outside agencies; and to provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Assistant City Manager.Environmental and Development Services Director.
