Work Schedule: 37.5 hours per week. Vacation: 11 working days after one year of service; additional days earned with additional years of service. Holidays: 14 1/2 paid holidays per year. Sick Leave: Sick leave is accrued at the rate of 8.75 hours per calendar month. Short and Long Term Disability: City pays full cost of employee’s premium. Health Plans: Choice of three plans: Kaiser, Health Net HMO and Health Net PPO. City contributes up to the family Kaiser premium per month. Dental Insurance: City contributes the full premium for the employee and family. Life Insurance: Amount equal to annual salary to nearest $1,000 (max $100,000). City-paid premium. Retirement: The City pays 5% and employee pays 3% of the member contribution to Public Employees Retirement System (2.7% at 55 for current members and 2% at 62 for new members.) Plan is Integrated with Social Security. The City and employee each pay own contribution to Social Security. Bilingual Pay: $50 per month for approved languages. Longevity Pay: $1,000 annually after completion of 15 or more years of service. This position is union represented and will require union fees. THE DEPARTMENT AND POSITION Incumbents in this class perform a wide variety of responsible and complex clerical work. Incumbents provide detailed information and assistance to the public regarding departmental programs, policies and procedures, which may require the interpretation, explanation and application of specific policies and procedures. Incumbents receive general supervision from management, professional or technical staff. The Recreation Department provides a variety of recreational and educational activities for youth and adults as well as facility rentals. The Administrative Clerk Specialist is the department’s lead in registration processes for childcare, youth services and day camp. Incumbents in this class are responsible for providing quality customer service, recreation software maintenance, and complex clerical work in support of the assigned department and divisions- including childcare, youth services, aquatics and adult services. THE “IDEAL” ADMINISTRATIVE CLERK—SPECIALIST The City is looking for an individual who can demonstrate clearly that he/she has the following background and competencies: EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Experience: Either two years of experience performing duties comparable to those of an Administrative Clerk with the City of El Cerrito, or three years of office support or secretarial experience. Municipal and recreation experience, experience in dealing with the public, and bilingual in English/Spanish are highly desirable. And Education: Equivalent to the twelfth grade, including or supplemented by business, computer or related courses. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Knowledge of general city government organization, functions and operations; interpretation of detailed department policies and procedures or detailed City-wide policies and procedures.  Knowledge of computer applications, including word processing and database usage, applicable to the work; business letter writing; English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; modern office practices, procedures, methods and equipment.  Ability to process information on a number of operational program or City-wide issues that require a wide range of operational or organization knowledge.  Ability to perform general clerical work including maintenance of appropriate records and compiling information for reports; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; operate office machines and word processing equipment.  Ability to type at a minimum speed of 40 net words per minute (certificate issued within 12 months from adult school, temporary agency, etc. required at time of application – internet typing certificates will not be accepted).
