IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Procedures and methods used in property and evidence handling, recording, preservation, storage, and disposition; Principles and practices of program development and administration; Principles of business letter writing and report preparation; Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications; Court procedures regarding the handling and storage of evidence. Ability to: Coordinate and direct the services and activities related to property and evidence; Recommend and implement goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; Understand, interpret, and apply, laws, policies, rules and regulations; Plan and organize work to meet changing priorities and deadlines; Exercise sound judgment in a variety of situations. EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and ability is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible experience in a law enforcement agency that included experience in property and evidence as well as some supervisory or administrative experience. Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training related to property and evidence. A college degree is desirable. Possession of, or ability to obtain, Preliminary Alcohol Screening Device certification; CLETS certification; firearms safety and bio-hazards training certification; training certification from the California Association for Property and Evidence and the International Association for Property and Evidence, (Certified Property and Evidence Specialist within 18 months). SELECTION PROCESS The evaluation and selection process will consist of application and supplemental application screening, a written examination, and a Qualifications Appraisal Interview. The oral qualifications appraisal interview is designed to measure the job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed critical to successful job performance. Candidates whose names are placed on the eligibility list must undergo an extensive background investigation; and thorough medical and evaluations that may include polygraph and drug testing - prior to appointment.
