EAST BAY INFILTRATION / INFLOW CORRECTION PROGRAM Advanced Notice of Smoke Testing E2 Consulting Engineers will be smoke testing the sanitary sewer lines within Stege Sanitary District. Work will begin in May 2015 and continue into June. You will get a second notice 1 to 2 days before we test the sewers near your location. Testing will be between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Friday. E2 Consulting Engineers Inc. will be working with East Bay Municipal Utility District to perform smoke testing on the sanitary sewer lines in your area. These tests involve blowing harmless smoke into parts of the sewer system to find damage, improper connections, and areas where unwanted water may be entering the sewer system. As a result, smoke may be seen coming from roof vents, building foundations, catch-basins, clean-outs, down-spouts, sewer laterals or manhole covers. The smoke will not enter your home or business if it is properly plumbed, vented, and the water traps contain water. CAUTION TO RESIDENTS Water can evaporate from unused plumbing fixtures. If you have a bathroom or plumbing fixture that is not used or is seldom used, traps should be filled by running water in the fixtures the day before scheduled smoke testing and on a basis thereafter in order to prevent sewer gas from entering your home or office. The smoke used is a non-toxic substance that is harmless to humans, pets, food, and material items. If smoke does enter the building, it will clear in a few minutes with proper ventilation. Please advise a representative of the smoke testing crew if any leakage occurs in your home or business. Additionally, if you have any questions about the test, health issues, or any other concerns, feel free to ask a crew member, or contact Jeff Blum of E2 Consulting Engineers at (510) 652-1164 ext. 799 or Kristina Elmasu of EBMUD’s I/I Control Program at (510) 287-1102. Your presence is not required during the tests, and all public safety authorities have been notified of this event. We would appreciate it if you would mention this notice to your neighbors in case they have not received a notice. A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) is available upon request ([EMAIL REDACTED]).
