NOTICE OF HERBICIDE APPLICATION AVISO DE APLICACIÓN DE HERBICIDAS 除草剂申请的通知 BART landscape management in cooperation with City of El Cerrito Integrated Pest Management Protocol - Herbicide Application Herbicide Name Fiesta Active Ingredient(s): Iron Chelate (FeHEDTA) Target Pest: Non-Native Broad Leaf Weeds Area To Be Treated: Recent native grass plantings in newly landscaped area in the Ohlone Greenway under the BART tracks. NOTE: 15’ Buffer zone around environmentally sensitive areas and NO treatment at frog habitat, creek drainage areas, drainage swales, or immediately adjacent to nearby non-project locations: Community Garden, Tot-Lot. Application Method: Low-pressure, large droplet spray in low wind conditions to confine drift Application Date(s): Weather Permitting on or about EPA/CA Reg. 67702-26-87865 Signal Word: Caution Re-Entry Period: When Dry Goal Promote establishment of new native grass stands and reduce population of invasive, non-native broadleaf weeds Strategies a) Apply Fiesta FeHDTA to the broadleaf weed plants located in the new native grass stand areas b) Mechanically remove or mow broadleaf weeds in non-spray areas Background The recent BART Seismic retrofit project included seeding large areas with native “no mow” fescue grass to reduce future water use and mowing activities; a well established grass stand will also deter weeds. The invasive broadleaf weed plant population has limited the successful establishment of these new native fescue grass stands and must be reduced in order for the new native grasses to become established. The number of weed plants and size of the affected areas are too large to be effectively controlled by mechanical removal and mowing alone. Benefit Successful establishment of the native fescue grass stands will reduce water use and future maintenance needs. Project Area Ohlone Greenway new grass plantings on WEST SIDE of path from Central Avenue north to Hill Street with the exception of play grounds, tot lots, community gardens, drainage swales, frog habitats and creek areas (see map, more detailed maps are available on the City of El Cerrito website at www.el-cerrito.org ) Boundaries of spray areas will be marked with white landscape marking paint.
