The exhibition can be selected, with input from the committee and/ or City staff from the images on the enclosed CD. This work is based in nature, especially the plants and birds of our region. Many of these oil paintings are quite large, horizontally, but are no more than 5 feet high, so would work dramatically in the space. The eye sees differently from the way a camera "sees," so I work directly from nature without the use of photography. The work is more about feeling than about the specific scene depicted. My process is sensual and intuitive, not particularly cerebral. Clearly, I am influenced by Japanese screen painting and printmaking. We rarely perceive nature without mediation, and I include this reality. Cultural artifacts intrude: a road, a fence, a power pole, barbed wire. These intrusions provide piquancy to our experience of the natural world. All this work will be available by February 1, 2014. I have no preference as to the dates of a possible exhibition at the El Cerrito City Hall. Enclosed is my resume, list of images and CD of 12 images from which the exhibition could be selected.
