A Greener El Cerrito News from the City of El Cerrito Environmental Services Division New Environmental Services Division The City of El Cerrito has a long- standing commitment to environmen- tal protection, as demonstrated by the popular Recycling Center opened by community volunteers in the 1970s and the City’s enduring Earth Day tradition. Starting in July 2008, the City has a new Environmental Services Division that will serve as a clear point of contact for the community regarding all environ- mental concerns. El Cerrito Environ- ment combines El Cerrito’s dedication to recycling and concern for sustain- ability and climate change by focusing on the following areas: • Energy Efficiency and Conservation • Water and Wastewater Systems • Green Building • Waste Reduction and Recycling • Climate-Friendly Purchasing • Renewable Energy and Low- Carbon Fuels • Efficient Transportation • Land Use and Community Design • Storing and Offsetting Carbon Emissions • Climate Action Planning • Promoting Community and Individual Action New Newsletter “A Greener El Cerrito” is the first newsletter from the City’s new Envi- ronmental Services Division and will replace “The El Cerrito Recycler” news- letter that came in your garbage bills three times a year. Like “The El Cerrito Recycler,” this newsletter will update you on the City’s recycling programs and services, but will also inform you about the City’s other environmental programs, related to the program areas listed above. Informa- tion about Albany garage sales will be included on El Cerrito’s participant maps & lists (see below). #3 Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle!
