The Community Service Officer will be supervised by higher level sworn officers or civilian personnel. Current vacancies are part-time. FINAL FILING DATE: March 27, 2014, 6 pm Opportunity Community Service Officer Salary Range: $4,110 - $4,902 per month ($23.71 - $28.28 per hour) ---PAGE BREAK--- ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Provide support in all units within the police department and assist officers in routine investigations Respond to and investigate non-injury and minor injury traffic collisions Prepare and file routine reports and correspondence such as burglary, stolen car, traffic accident, parking enforcement and lost and found property Process, collect, and document property crime scenes for latent finger prints Collect and document evidence from crime scenes Perform traffic control, non-violent crowd control, and administer first aid as necessary Transport victims, witnesses and equipment Refer violations and complaints by citizens to proper authorities and departments Enforce traffic and parking violations, write parking citations, and order vehicle seizures Locate, investigate, and evaluate statements made by victims or witnesses Testify in court at hearings regarding case records and investigative activities QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Education: High school diploma or G.E.D Experience: 1) Successful completion of the P.O.S.T. Basic Police Academy or 2) Two years of experience assisting sworn personnel in performing non-sworn municipal law enforcement duties or a related position License: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver’s license Posted: 2/27/14 THE EVALUATION AND SELECTION PROCESS The evaluation and selection process will consist of such test or combination of tests that shall be deemed appropriate by the City. The Community Service Officer serves an 18-month probationary period.
