Agenda Item No. 4(A)(l) RESOLUTION 2012-:XX RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EL CERRITO INDUCTING JANE BARTKE INTO THEEL CERRITO WALL OF FAME WHEREAS, Jane Bartke, a long-time resident of the City ofEl Cerrito, is a graduate of St. Mary's College at Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, and California State University East Bay where she obtained her Masters degree in Public Administration; and WHEREAS, Jane Bartke taught in local public schools from 1970 to 2000, and after retirement worked part-time as a counselor, administrator and teacher. She holds a California life- time teaching credential for grades K through 8. She also served the West Contra Costa Unified School District as a Department Chair, Mentor Teacher and briefly as an elementary school Principal; and ( WHEREAS, during her years as an educator, Jane Bartke received numerous awardey. such as Teacher of the Year from the Ed Fund, California Outstanding Education Award from Johns Hopkins University, Outstanding Educator from California State University, and Mentor Teacher from the State Superintendent of Public Instruction; and WHEREAS, Jane Bartke took an active role in the community as a Board member and President of the Contra Costa Chapter National Women's Political Caucus, of the YWCA of West County, of Soroptimist International of El Cerrito, of the El Cerrito Jaycettes and the El Cerrito Junior Women's Club; and WHEREAS, for her community service, Jane Bartke has been recognized with several distinguished awards such as Circle of 100, Congressional Recognition in 2008, Soroptimists Woman of Distinction, El Cerrito Woman of the Year associated with Women's History Month, and Diablo District Citizen of the Year from the Junior Women's Club; and WHEREAS, Jane Bartke continues her community involvement as a Board member, and presently as President of the Trust for Rosie the Riveter/ World War II Home Front National Historical Park, a national park located in Richmond to tell the nation's story of the home front effort ofWWII, and WHEREAS, Jane Bartke exemplifies dedication in public service by contributing innumerable hours of her time and energy to civic affairs and local government, including Chair of the city's Park & Recreation Commission and later being elected to the El Cerrito City Council. She served on the City Council from 1991 to 1999, including two terms as Mayor in 1993 and 1997. While serving on the City Council, Jane Bartke represented El Cerrito at the Contra Costa Mayors Conference and was elected Chairwoman of the Conference, the only El Cerritan to have been so elected Chair in the past thirty years; she also served on the Executive Board of ABAG, and chaired a state committee for the League of California Cities, and WHEREAS, Jane Bartke single-handedly created the El Cerrito Community Foundation, a ---PAGE BREAK--- Agenda Item No. 4(A)(l) non-profit agency organized, among other projects, to receive and preserve the Sundar Shadi holiday display, and she has coordinated its preservation, restoration, fund-raising and public presentation each Christmas season, serving as its chairperson every year since its inception in 2001. NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved, by the City Council of the City of El Cerrito, that it hereby inducts Jane Bartke into the El Cerrito Wall of Fame in recognition of her significant contributions to the El Cerrito community. * * * * * I CERTIFY that at a regular meeting on August XX, 2012, the City Council of the City of El Cerrito passed this Resolution by the following vote: AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: IN WITNESS of this action, I sign this document and affix the corporate seal of the City of El Cerrito on August XX, 2012.
