Shreeve, Sr., Chief Building Official Subject: Gas Meter Release Requirements Gas Meter Release – Single-Family and Multi-Family Residential The Building & Safety Division will release the gas meter upon successful completion of the final inspection. Upon request, in a single- or multi-family dwelling building, a gas meter may be released at the discretion of the Chief Building Official or their designee, after the furnace/HVAC has been installed and connected to the gas system and all other gas lines have a valve and a cap installed. Gas test shall be approved prior to gas meter release. No occupancy of the dwelling will be released until after all floor coverings are in place and the final inspection has been performed and occupancy has been release by the Building & Safety Division. Gas Meter Release - Tenant Improvements The Building & Safety Division will release the gas meter upon successful completion of the final inspection. A gas meter may be released at the discretion of the Chief Building Official or their designee, after the furnace/HVAC has been installed and connected to the gas system and all other gas lines have a valve and cap installed. Gas test shall be approved prior to gas meter release. No occupancy of the tenant improvement will be released until a final inspection has been performed and occupancy have been released by the Building & Safety Division. Gas Meter Release - Core and Shell The Building & Safety Division, at the discretion of the Chief Building Official or his designee, may consider a gas meter release for the core and shell building when all of the gas equipment on the approved plans is installed, gas valves with caps are installed and a gas test has been performed and approved. When the requirements of the California Electrical Code (CEC), California Plumbing Code (CPC), and manufacturer’s instructions conflict, the more stringent provisions shall prevail (DMC 7.28.240)
