Permit Requirements Permits are required for residential projects when any of the following apply: 1. The size of the window is reduced or increased. 2. For window replacement “in kind” where window openings or rough framing is not altered). 3. The sill height is altered. Permits are not required when only the glazing area is replaced. B. Installation Requirements The following items are required for window replacements: 1. Operable emergency escape and rescue windows: Sleeping room window replacements where the rough opening size is altered, the sill height shall meet the current emergency egress requirements based on Section R310 of the California Residential Code (CRC). 2. The sill height may remain the same for “in kind” window replacements in sleeping rooms.
