As is typical for this time of year, certain trail segments can be opened and others are not ready yet due to wetland crossings and/or have restrictions due to private land easements. It is critical that we respect the landowners who allow us to use their property... please review the information below carefully before trail riding and confirm that you are using open trails. Please note that on certain trails only segments of that trail may be open at this time. We anticipate frequent updates as the clubs report in with trails they have checked. In all areas where the winter recreational trails are closed the clubs are actively working on the getting the trails open. Ice conditions – Wisconsin DNR website provides general and safety information about ice conditions: http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/outdoorrecreation/activities/icesafety.html NE Quadrant Tuesday, January 12, 2016 All Brule River Riders trails are open except 635 between Lake Nebagamon and Lake Munnesuing. Some grooming has taking place on Trail 4/24 between Brule, Hawthorne and Poplar. Small portions of this area were skipped around by the groomer due to poor ice conditions. ATV riders are advised to be cautious in any areas with unfrozen wetlands and moving water, such as trails 4, 6 and 24. Most sections of these trails have improved but still have small areas of thin ice or moving water. In Bennett use the Bennett Road route rather than # 4 across the swamp to the grade. Some open spots were found as recently as Monday morning. 1-3 inches of new snow over the last few days. This has been a significant improvement on top of what we have groomed Trail 1: Open to the Brule River and groomed from Trail 2 to the Brule River on Monday the 11th. Mostly very good condition except for the winding portion thru the woods near the river. Status of the Bayfied section is unknown. Trail 2: (Tri-County Corridor) Groomed between Brule and Superior on Monday the 11th. Many areas of this trail are in very good condition. Trail 4: Open and mostly groomed from Brule to Hawthorne with a little ugly stuff and a few places we skipped around for groomer safety. This section will probably be groomed again later this week. Hawthorne to the warming shelter is not groomed but possibly could be groomed later this week. Lots of soft swamps and slow freezing waterways. Still some saplings and branches overhanging. ATV traffic is recommended to use caution of because of possible open water. Fair condition. Trail 6: Similar to trail 4 in regards to hangers and moving water. To the west of Lake Nebagamon the trail is groomed and better as it is all on high ground. ATV traffic use caution east of Lake Nebagamon. Trail 24: Open and mostly groomed last week. Probably will be groomed later this week. ATVs use caution. ---PAGE BREAK--- Trail 27: Open to 27A. Groomed from Brule to 27A junction. Most of this trail is in very good to many places excellent condition. ATVs should use caution just south of Brule in wet lands. Use the year round trail just to the east, it’s easier. (Trail 22?) Trail 27A: Open: Groomed, a little dirty in some of the open areas but mostly in fair to very good condition. Trail 35: (Wild Rivers Trail) Scheduled to be groomed south of the Mikrot Road later this week. Trail 235: Open but not groomed from Trail 35 (WRT) to Trail 2 (TCC) Trail 635: Will open with safer conditions. Trail is packed and ready to go with a couple small rough sections. ATVers are reminded to use caution in any wetlands or low areas on Trails 4, 6, 24 and on the north 1/2 mile of 27. (just south of Brule) The Brule River Riders has something new for you! We have constructed a new club trail (235) through the Parkland area between trail #2 (Tri-County Corridor) and trail #35 (Wild Rivers Trail). This will connect the TCC east of Superior, past the Checker Board, just west of downtown South Range and on the Stone Road to the Wild Rivers Trail. The trail is complete but could use a little more stump grinding, other than that is ready for this snowmobile season. We have also been busy constructing a new club trail (635) between Lake Nebagamon and the Lake Minnesuing county boat landing. It could use a little more stump grinding to get it nice, but will be passable. Sad News: We have lost an easement on property near 18th Street Road, in Hawthorne. We will be back on our old trail to the 18th Street Road. We may be able to go back on the trail around the gravel pit next year. NW Quadrant Grooming has been temporarily suspended until we receive additional snow. Trail 5 and 5a are open, and the higher portions are being groomed today Trail 9 is currently closed but should freeze this week, we should be able to get in there in the next few days to get that cleared and open. Will update report when ready for opening. Closed Trails: 925 – Tamarack River 930 935 Burnett County Trail Update 925, 118 and most of 151 are open, groomed, and in decent early season condition. 151 north of the junction to Big McGraw should freeze enough this week to allow us to get through it in the next several days, as well as 151 from the 118/151 junction to the St. Croix River. There are low spots on those two sections that a groomer could not get into just yet. SE Quadrant JPR and 4 Season’s Trail update.
