Hartel’s DBJ is working with AA Roll-Off at 1021 Garfield Avenue in Supe- rior to provide a drop off site for residents. The hours are: Monday– Friday 7:00 to 5:00 and Saturday 8:00 to 12:00. This is a service provided for the residents of Superior only. It is not an option for businesses or rural County residents. Businesses should contact a vendor to provide services for them. REMEMBER! The City of Superior banned fluorescent light bulbs from being disposed of in the landfill (your garbage.) They can be disposed of at the Wastewater Treatment Plant (394-0392) and Pop- lar Hardware store, Campbell’s Lumber, or Spring 2010 SUPERIOR/DOUGLAS COUNTY RECYCLING Drop-off Site for City Residents Residents of the City of Superior have year round access to safe disposal for their household hazardous waste thanks to an agreement with Household Hazardous Waste Facility. HOLIDAY SCHEDULE: If your recycling day falls on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day, your recycling will be delayed by one day. Cell phone use is growing by leaps and bounds. And like computers the technology is growing at a pace faster than we can buy them and the cell phone plans keep chang- ing. The result is that people are replacing their cell phones and don’t know what to do with them. One option is to pick up a free self mailing bag from the County Treasurer’s office or call the recycling office and have one sent to you. Your cell phone will then be safely recycled. These same bags can be used for empty ink jet cartridges. Wisconsin's communities are now paying a lot more for waste that ends up in the landfill! And we all know who pays that bill; you and I! Even when you recycle more, there’s still something in your trash. Doing MORE means wasting less by thinking about trash long before it’s time to throw anything away. Buy products with less or recycled packaging and use concentrated products. But there is something we can all do about it! By reducing the amount of stuff we throw in the garbage, we can decrease what goes to landfills and save money! Manufacturing products from recycled materials requires less en- ergy than using virgin materials. This reduces the impact we have on climate change and our dependence on foreign oil. We can make a difference in reducing greenhouse gas emissions if we work together to recycle more often. Recycling reduces air and water pollution that damages the envi- ronment and our health. Water pollutants can contaminate our drinking water, kill fish and other wildlife, accumulate in the tissue of fish we catch and eat, and reduce the beauty of water. If paper mills use recycled paper in their products, they save 60% of the water that would be used if they started with virgin pulp. Only 2.8% of the Earth’s water is available for human consump- tion, so we should take care of it!
