Douglas County Weekly Snowmobile and Winter ATV Trail Report Information provided by Club Members of the Northwest Trails Association and compiled by the Douglas County Forestry Department. Please remember, users can also call the 24 hours a day/7 days a week Douglas County Trail Hotline for the latest up-to-date trail information including, conditions, openings, and closings… (715) 378-4528. UPDATED 01/24/2012 As is typical for this time of year, certain trail segments can be opened and others are not ready yet due to wetland crossings and/or have restrictions due to private land easements. It is critical that we respect the landowners who allow us to use their property... please review the information below carefully before trail riding and confirm that you are using open trails. Please note that on certain trails only segments of that trail may be open at this time. Thank you. For a map showing trail status scroll down to page 4: NE Quadrant Riders Trail Report Brule River for January 24, 2012 New Snow We received anywhere from 1.5/3.5 inches near Hawthorne, 4 inches (or more) in Brule, to as much as 6 inches near Maple and Poplar. With the small amount of snow we had on the ground before this snowfall we are attempting to groom trails. We groomed a single path on #4 Monday from Brule to Hawthorne and double wide on #24 to Poplar. Some places are Ok with the new snow, swamps are sometimes ugly and some very thin areas such as open railroad grades/fields. We will update as we check and groom more areas. 1 ---PAGE BREAK--- 2 NW Quadrant All summer ATV trails are Good, open, and ready to groom with snow. The NW quadrant received a variable amount of snow (estimated at Winter recreational trails are open for ATVs, rough slow going. There is not enough snow at this time for snowmobiles however, we are ready to groom as soon as we get additional snow. Use caution, lets be safe. We are out with our brusher so watch for it. SW Quadrant While the snow has made things look a little “prettier”, it really wasn’t enough to have much impact on the trails. Douglas County: All Cozy Corner Trails sections in the southwest quadrant of Douglas County are open. There is not sufficient snow for grooming in any areas. Trails are very rough, but frozen completely. While safe for atv’s, they are not suitable for snowmobiles. Please continue to watch for new deadfalls and branches throughout the 2011‐2012 snowmobile season. The storms of 2011 may continue to create hazards throughout the year. SE Quadrant All summer ATV trails are open and fair for snowmobiles or ATV, Grooming is underway and should be complete within days. Trails groomed: Corridor 35N&S (Wild Rivers Trail), groomed 1/23 fair for snowmobiles and ATV, Trail 5, (Corridor 35 to the Mail road) Good for Snowmobiles and ATV, Groomed 1/23. Trails being groomed today: 27/7 Open, Fair for ATV grooming scheduled for Tuesday. Corridor 41s (from County Y to Burnett County) on schedule to be groomed this week. Caution, Re- route through the Frahm Plantation North of County T to the Sunset road due to logging, slow down and follow signs! Trail 541 Open, Fair for ATV.grooming scheduled this week (Pre-season conditions) 27b (Corridor 35 to Business 53) and Thru-town (Railroad Street to Lake St. Croix) open and Good for ATV. on schedule to groom. 27c (Corridor 35 to Lake St. Croix via the Holly Lucius Road has been groomed from corridor 35 to Hwy 53 1/23), AND (Baldwin Avenue to Business 53) road route for Snowmobiles & ATV. Clearly marked and open. Corridor 41N (Solon Springs to warming shack) CLOSED ready to open and groom with snow. Corridor 41S, (Corridor 35 to County private easement CLOSED, ready to open with snow. ---PAGE BREAK--- 3 Trail 3 Open from Trail 41/Trail 3 intersection (SOUTH OF CTH T) east to Chipmonk Hollow Road. Closed from the Trail 41/Trail 3 intersection (NEAR CTH Y) south to CTH T (PRIVATE EASEMENTS) THIS TRAIL SEGMENT IS SCHEDULED FOR OPENING FRIDAY MORNING 1/27/12. WE WILL ISSUE AN UPDATE AT THAT TIME.
