Douglas County Department of Health and Human Services Public Health Unit Surgical Mask Wearers Purpose: To minimize exposure of staff and clients to potential respiratory influenza infection. Due to the recent outbreak of Swine Flu (H1N1 Novel Influenza) in the United States, and if you have a cough, we ask that you wear a surgical mask while doing business here. Advice for when you wear a surgical mask: A surgical mask does not take the place of hand washing and personal cleanliness. Masks must be properly worn and at all times during the visit. Wearing the mask incorrectly or taking it off during a visit could allow viruses to come in contact with hands, eyes, nose, and mouth. Provide the client with a surgical mask and instructions on how to put on. Avoid touching the outside of the client mask. Use a separate mask for demonstrating proper placement. The single use mask shall be discarded in a separate container for disposal. Sanitize or wash hands and contact areas after removal of mask. Contact a Public Health Nurse @ 395-1304 with questions or if you need inventory replacement. 5-1-2009
