1 Douglas County Weekly Snowmobile and Winter ATV Trail Report Information provided by Club Members of the Northwest Trails Association and compiled by the Douglas County Forestry Department. UPDATED 12/13/2013 As is typical for this time of year, certain trail segments can be opened and others are not ready yet due to wetland crossings and/or have restrictions due to private land easements. It is critical that we respect the landowners who allow us to use their property... please review the information below carefully before trail riding and confirm that you are using open trails. Please note that on certain trails only segments of that trail may be open at this time. We anticipate frequent updates as the clubs report in with trails they have checked. Thank you. NE Quadrant The Brule River Riders area has received up to 16-18 inches of snow through last Wednesday evening. Railroad grade trails are open, this includes Trails 2 and 35. Trail 4 is open from WRT to Trail 6 west but has not been groomed. Trail 4 is also open from Trail 2 near Brule to S Bellwood Pit Road allowing access to Lake Nebagamon. Trail 27 is open from Brule to the boat landing at Lake St Croix, but has not been groomed. Lake Route across Lake St Croix not recommended at this time, due to snow and slush. This leaves Trail 4 closed from 6 West to 6 East along with trail 24 Trail 6 East to/from Minnow Lake Road east of Lake Nebagamon will remain closed until further notice Grooming: Trail 1: Groomed a single pass from Brule River to Trail 2 Will be groomed two more passes as groomers are moved from Oulu. Trail 2: Groomed Monday from Amnicon Falls to Brule Trail 35: Groomed from North Trail Head to 4 East. Parking lot is plowed at North Trail Head. Scheduled for grooming: Trail 2 west: Amnicon Falls to Superior on Thursday Trail 2 east Amnicon Falls to Brule on Thursday/Friday Trail 27 / 27A: Scheduled for grooming Tuesday. Trails 4 / 6 / 24: Hopefully will be groomed next week after swamps are frozen down. . ---PAGE BREAK--- 2 NW Quadrant The following snowmobile/winter ATV trails have been opened: Trail 0 Trail 28 The Gandy Dancer (Trail 43 on map) The Saunders Grade (The western portion of Trail 2 on map) The Crosstown Route (Trail 2 within the city of Superior corporate limits) The open trails have not been groomed yet and are in early season condition at this time. All other winter recreational trails remain closed at this time. Club members are working on trail preparation but have run into issues with wet areas not being frozen at this time. SE Quadrant To date we have all of WRT, 27b, 27c, and trail 5 groomed and it's quite good for pre-season Tomorrow, we will open the gates on trail 7 and 541 in the afternoon after final checks. Scheduled for grooming/opening Monday, all of Corridor 41S Trails 7, 27, and 541 will be groomed as soon as we have enough ice to support the groomer. Corridor 41 North of County Road A is closed, Grooming/Opening is undetermined and dependent upon ice conditions. Corridor 41 from Gordon to Forest Road 41 is closed until December 15. (Private Land easements restrictions) We expect all trails to be opened and groomed to full width by December 20 Trail 3 All of Trail 3 is now open, groomed, and in good to very good condition. Douglas County Ski Trails ---PAGE BREAK--- 3 Ski Trails were packed with snowmobiles on Tuesday. Grooming is tentatively scheduled for Thursday. Please check for updates.
