“Keeping Our Canopy” Parkway Tree Planting Cost-Share Program The City is offering residents an opportunity to add new trees to their parkways - the strip of land between the sidewalk and the curb - through a shared-cost planting program. First 25 participants may choose from a selection of available tree species, and all planting locations will be reviewed and approved by the City Forester. Program Requirements for Planting Locations To ensure healthy growth and safe placement, trees must be planted with the following minimum clearances: 35 ft from curbs at intersections 20 ft from streetlights 10 ft from overhead utilities 7 ft from attached sidewalks 5 ft from underground utilities 10 ft from alleys, driveways, and fire hydrants The City Forester will verify that each proposed location meets these standards before approval. Ordering of the tree will proceed only after the City approves the planting location and tree species. Upon approval, the resident will pay a $150.00 cost-share fee at City Hall. Tree will be ordered after payment is confirmed. The City will provide and plant the selected tree. The resident agrees to provide essential care for the newly planted tree, understanding that the first two years are critical for establishment. This includes: Watering deeply and consistenly during the growing season Protecting the tree from mower/weed-trimmer damage Monitoring for pests or stress and notifying the City if concerns arise Avoiding herbicide use near the tree Keeping mulch in place and maintaining a mulch ring as instructed.
