Box 1030 Douglas, WY Web site: www.cityofdouglas.org ---PAGE BREAK--- CITY OF DOUGLAS POSITION SPECIFICATION Adopted 9/24/90 (Amended 11/94) TITLE: MAINTENANCE WORKER I - SEASONAL CLASS CODE: 3440 PARKS, RECREATION, CEMETERY GENERAL DESCRIPTION: PERFORMS A VARIETY OF TASKS ASSOCIATED WITH MAINTENANCE OF GROUNDS OF CITY PARKS, PUBLIC AREAS AND RECREATIONS AREAS. (Any position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions of this classification). SUPERVISION EXERCISED/ACCOUNTABILITY: Works under direct supervision of Parks Supervisor or Lead Worker. No supervisory responsibility; may act as lead worker. MAJOR TASKS: Waters lawns utilizing sprinkler and irrigation system. Receives training in the mowing of grass on lawns in parks, parkways and other outdoor areas; operates weed eater to trim grass and weeds. Manually picks up debris in outdoor areas for disposal; empties trash receptacles in public parks and public areas. Rakes and cleans in outdoor work areas; pulls weeds. Receives training in the repair and maintenance of picnic tables, barbecue pits and benches; cleans barbecue pits as required. Receives training in the building, painting and installation of signs. Receives training in painting of curbs, fire hydrants and other city property. MINOR TASKS: Receives training in the application of fertilizers; applies same to city property as instructed. ---PAGE BREAK--- Receives training in performance of standardized preventive maintenance work and minor mechanical repair work on small power equipment, sprinkler system; cleans tools. Receives training in the repair or replacement of fences. Receives training in the planting of trees and bushes; waters trees and bushes. Cleans restrooms in public park areas. Assists with various minor construction projects. Performs related tasks as required. KNOWLEDGE AREAS: Knowledge of fundamentals of grounds maintenance and daily maintenance of equipment used; acquired on the job. SKILL/ABILITY AREAS: Ability to operate equipment utilized by work unit; ability to perform strenuous manual labor; ability to follow verbal instructions; ability to insure compliance with and follow standard safety practices and procedures. SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF WORK: Outdoor, seasonal work. LEGAL REQUIREMENTS: Valid Wyoming Driver's License, Class C. RECOMMENDED PREPARATION FOR EMPLOYMENT: This is an entry-level position class for persons with the necessary skills/abilities outlined above.
