CITY OF DOUGLAS PRESS RELEASE FORM 1 Project Name: 8.5 and 9th Street Improvements Project Project Manager: Nick Larsen Date: February 26, 2021 Press Release No.: Please provide three to five major points describing the “project” (project, equipment, or vehicle). 1. The first point should be an overview of the project, or What the project consists of. 2. Use two to four more points to include information such as: Who is in charge or which department; When the project will begin; Where the project will be or be used; Why the city is moving forward with the project; Other key information, such as road closures, costs, and if this project is being completed using 5th penny tax dollars. 3. The final point should be a When the project will end and be in use by the City or useable by the public. Point #1 The Project location is between Center and Cedar Street and includes the alley between 8th St and 9th St. The Project generally consists of replacing aging sanitary sewer pipelines and manholes, aging waterlines and fittings as well as water services from the main to and thru the curb stop and finally cold milling and asphalt overlay on 9th Street and resurfacing in the alley as well as alley apron and valley gutter repair/replacement. Point #2 The Public Works Department and City Engineer worked collaboratively on the design of the project and will oversee the construction of the project. Point #3 The Project Construction is anticipated to begin in the late spring and last 3 to 4 months. Point #4 The project will improve the efficiency of the aging water and sanitary sewer pipes as well as rehabilitate the wearing asphalt. Point #5 The project completion date is set for September 30th, 2021
