OUR CITY Douglas Wyoming Mission: To serve our community with opportunities that create a better way of life. ---PAGE BREAK--- Candidate Profile The Community Services Officer for the City of Douglas will be a responsible individual who can perform a variety of tasks associated with enforcing animal control ordinances, property maintenance, and nuisance abatement ordinances, except for structural-related violations within the city. They will also perform community service duties involved in non-enforcement police operations. This candidate will work under the supervision of the Police Sergeant. Position Description Overview The Community Services Director responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Patrols community and surrounding area in vehicle; apprehends and impounds animals at large; enforces animal control ordi- nances; issuing citations or warnings as appropriate, notifies owners of impoundment of animals; follows up on compliance of ordinances. • Answers calls involving citizen complaints regarding violations of animal control ordinances; picks up injured, dead or unwant- ed animals; traps wild and domestic animals as necessary; issues traps to private citizens for trapping. • Records information on a daily and basis on a variety of forms, logs reports and records concerning activities of the work unit, including but not limited to, daily log sheets, time records pick up logs, complaint forms, ticket records and reports. • Conducts assigned traffic control duties at special events, inci- dents; assists with crime scene investigations as directed by patrol supervisor; conducts traffic accident investigations that require no law enforcement action, such as private property accidents; main- tains speed trailer, keeping batteries charged, etc.; places speed trailer for traffic enforcement as assigned. • Handles found property complaints; enters and logs found property into appropriate police holding facility or disposes of property according to department procedures. Picks up pawn tickets from local shops. • Conducts inspections in community for compliance with prop- erty maintenance and nuisance abatement code with the excep- tion of structural related violations; follow-up with visual inspec- tions to verify that abatement has been completed. • Interprets codes and ordinances related to property mainte- nance and nuisance abatement with the exception of structural related violations; confers with the public and advises them with regard to possible violations, takes appropriate enforcement action as necessary. Education and Experience This is an entry level position for applicants who have skills in the areas described Valid Class C Wyoming Driver’s License. Composes correspondence in response to inquiries or requests for services; submits same to supervisor for review. Checks for proper operation of assigned equipment; performs emergency repairs; reports mechanical problems; arranges corrective maintenance as directed; maintains cleanliness of assigned equipment. Attends various meetings, training sessions as required. Performs public relations duties as assigned. Performs related tasks as required. Knowledge Areas: Thorough knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances and departmental rules and regulations; working knowledge of legal procedures; knowledge of city and surrounding county geography; knowledge of animal breeds; knowledge of wildlife animal habits.
