CITY OF DOUGLAS PRESS RELEASE FORM 1 Project Name: Downtown 2nd & 3rd Street Utility Improvements Project Project Manager: Nick Larsen Date: May 28, 2021 Press Release No.: Please provide three to five major points describing the “project” (project, equipment, or vehicle). 1. The first point should be an overview of the project, or What the project consists of. 2. Use two to four more points to include information such as: Who is in charge or which department; When the project will begin; Where the project will be or be used; Why the city is moving forward with the project; Other key information, such as road closures, costs, and if this project is being completed using 5th penny tax dollars. 3. The final point should be a When the project will end and be in use by the City or useable by the public. Point #1 The Project is located in the Downtown District on North 2nd St., North 3rd St., and the adjacent alleys. The project generally consists of replacing the aging water and sanitary sewer pipelines and resurfacing the alleys for better drainage. Point #2 The Public Works Department and City Engineer worked collaboratively on the design of the project and will oversee the construction of the project. Point #3 The Project Construction is anticipated to begin late summer 2021 (July or August). Point #4 The existing water and sanitary sewer mains in the project area are deteriorating; they are requiring additional maintenance and are more prone to leaks and blockages. Replacing these water and sanitary sewer mains will reduce the maintenance requirements and as well as reducing the potential for leaks and blockages. Point #5 The project completion date is set for June 30th, 2022
