FIERI FACIAS A/K/A FI FA WHAT IS A FI FA? A Fi Fa is a document issued, upon request, after judgment. It can be used to levy on the person whom the judgment is against in order to collect what is owed to you. You may obtain a Fi Fa request form from the Magistrate Filing Office. The fee for issuing a Fi Fa is $4.00 payable to Magistrate Court. Said document can be recorded in the General Execution Docket (GED). There is an additional $25.00 charge for this payable to Superior Court, and this acts as a lien against the property of the debtor, both real and personal, until the debt is paid. The original Fi Fa is mailed to you after it has been recorded and it will be your responsibility to take it to the Sheriff’s Department if you wish to levy on property of the debtor. Please contact the Civil Division at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office at (770) 920-4978. A $50.00 check made payable to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office shall accompany the Fi Fa if you wish to levy on personal property. Once the debt has been paid, it will be your responsibility to cancel it of record and mail the original to the debtor. You may cancel the Fi Fa by filling out the cancellation on the Fi Fa, signing it, and mailing or bringing it to the Superior Court Clerk’s Office to have it taken off record.
