Renaissance Fencing Thursday Nights 7-9pm. March 24-May 1. Rock Creek Park & Rec Pavilion. Learn the fundamentals of the European long-sword following authentic 15th and 16th century Germanic and Italian sources. Conducted as an 6-week athletic outdoor session this unique class focuses on the chivalric science of defense as a genuine historical martial art. Limited to 12 participants ages 18+ [No exceptions]. Fight Master John Clements A recognized international expert, John Clements is one of the world’s foremost instructors of Medieval and Renaissance fighting arts. Having pursued the craft since 1980, he has researched and taught on the subject in 19 countries, been a professional fight consultant for 25 years and ran his own private school of defence for 17. A pioneer in reviving these forgotten martial disciplines, fight master Clements is a major force in the field of historical fencing studies. Author of several books, his writings on the subject have been featured in more than a dozen periodicals world-wide and he has appeared in numerous television and film documentaries. He has also lectured and presented at museums and universities around the world. As director of ARMA, the Association for Renaissance Martial Arts (www.theARMA.org) since 1997, John has been featured on National Geographic, PBS Nova, The History Channel and the noted 2012 feature documentary film, Reclaiming the Blade. He was a co-host of the 2019 combat-series, Knight Fight. and is the official delegate representative for Medieval and Renaissance combat arts to the World Martial Arts Union, a recognized body of UNESCO. He has provided professional choreographed sequences for numerous television and video-game projects as well as consulted for the entertainment industry, such as video game developer Blizzard. He currently writes and teaches on historical fencing from his home in North of Georgia.
