Ehron Ostendorf, Public Relations Specialist Dawson County Government 25 Justice Way, Suite 2240 Dawsonville, GA 30534 [PHONE REDACTED] x42315 I [EMAIL REDACTED] www.dawsoncountyga.gov Nov. 18, 2025 Press Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Dawson County to host SPLOST VIII Community Meeting DAWSONVILLE, Ga. – Dawson County Government will host a SPLOST VIII informational and community input drop-in meeting in the Dawson County Courthouse Assembly Room at 25 Justice Way, Dawsonville, Georgia 30534, 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., Mon., Dec. 8, 2025, and the public is invited to attend. “SPLOST” stands for “Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.” It has allowed the county to pay for a range of important projects, from infrastructure to purchasing new ambulances, fire trucks, etc. Dawson County voters last approved a continuation of this one percent sales tax in 2021; SPLOST VII runs until June 29, 2027, and is expected to generate approximately $60 million. SPLOST VIII is slated to be on the ballot for the general primary/special election on May 19, 2026. An official confirmation for that date will be submitted before the end of 2025 and approved by the Board of Commissioners in early 2026. Dawson County was established in 1857 and is located approximately 40 miles northeast of Atlanta, along the State Route 400 corridor. The county spans from the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains down to the shores of Lake Lanier. Most of the county remains rural and agricultural, balanced with growing business off of the 400 Corridor. Dawson County Government
