LIFEGUARD/POOL CONCESSION ATTENDANT DAWSON COUNTY PARKS & RECREATION Regular/Part-Time/Hourly/Non-Exempt JOB SUMMARY Under the general guidance and supervision of the Athletic Director, lifeguards/pool concession attendants will be responsible for ensuring the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies, clean up, selling concessions, securing money, inventorying concessions sold or needed, daily concession stand cleaning, and other related assignments. Applicants must be willing to work nights and weekends and work well with the public. ESSENTIAL DUTIES  Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies.  Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations.  Inspect the facility on a daily schedule and report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the supervisor.  Complete records and reports.  Participate in regular in-service training sessions.  Exercise regularly to maintain fitness level (strength and endurance).  Perform various pool maintenance duties.  Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor.  Pool concession services to include the following:  Provide services to the public such as serving food and beverages.  Operate cash register, concession appliances, and equipment.  Maintain adequate stock and supply of items appropriate for the facility and job duties assigned including counting items and maintaining inventory records.  Collect fees, make change, prepare deposits, and submit reports of fees collected.  Perform routine cleaning and housekeeping to keep concessions and other areas where work is performed and equipment is stored in a clean and orderly condition.  Set-up concession or other area of responsibility for daily use and follow closing procedures for the same.  Performs other related duties as assigned. SKILL IN:  Application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.  I d e n t i f y i n g a n d s o l v i n g p r o b l e m s ; d e c i s i o n - m a k i n g s k i l l s .  Leadership and public relations skills.  O r a l a n d w r i t t e n c o m m u n i c a t i o n . ADA MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS S c o p e o f P e r f o r m a n c e : The purpose of this position is to ensure the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies, clean-up, and other related assignments. Successful performance helps ensure safe and well- maintained pool and grounds, and affects the public image of the county government. Physical Ability: T h e w o r k i s t y p i c a l l y p e r f o r m e d w h i l e s i t t i n g , s w i m m i n g , s t a n d i n g , w a l k i n g , b e n d i n g , c r o u c h i n g o r s t o o p i n g . The employee is frequently required to lift light and heavy objects, up to 5 pounds regularly and up to but not limited to 60 pounds occasionally, and requires a high degree of dexterity. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Clear hearing and speech are required. Environmental Factors: The work is typically performed outdoors. The employee may be exposed to chemically treated water, noise and occasional inclement weather. The work may require use of protective devices such as goggles or nose plugs. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY Lifeguard/Pool Concession Attendant works under the general direction of the head lifeguard, aquatics director, and the pool manager. ---PAGE BREAK--- 3 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / CERTIFICATIONS  Applicant must be 16 years of age or older.  Applicant must have the ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.  Proficient in swimming.  Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work.  Certified or able to be certified in American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid Training and American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.  Applicant must have possession of or the ability to readily obtain a driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR); and/or has means to ensure transportation to and from work area for scheduled work hours.  Applicants must be willing to work nights and weekends and work well with the public.  Applicant must pass a background check and drug screening.
