Boyden Jeremy Boylan Chair, Cortland County Legislature Clerk of the Legislature October Committee Items Building &Grounds Committee: (Oct. 6 at 9 a.m. – Rm. 304) • With the 2016 Budget quickly approaching, the Committee will discuss County space needs, including vacant locations like property on West Court Street and Grant Street and how best to utilize the County’s existing facilities. Highway Committee: (Oct. 6 at 10 a.m. – Rm. 304) • As the end of construction season is coming shortly, Highway Superintendent Phil Krey will give a progress report on ongoing and completed Highway Department projects. Solid Waste Committee: (Oct. 6 at 11 a.m. – Rm. 304) • The contract with Casella to operate the County Recycling Center will expire at the end of the year. The Committee will discuss operations at the Center as well as options regarding a new Request For Proposals for continued operations. • Bids will be received soon for a new truck to haul leachate from the County landfill to the City’s wastewater treatment plant. Health & Human Services: (Oct. 8 at 9 a.m. – Rm. 304) • The County has been awarded nearly $40,000 to continue the Traffic Safety and Injury Prevention Program. This program provides bike, pedestrian and traffic education initiatives to reduce the number of crashes, injuries, and deaths on New York’s roads. Agriculture/Planning/Environment: (Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. – Rm. 304) • The Central New York Regional Planning & Development Board will give a presentation, followed by discussion with Erik Miller of the Southern Tier East Regional Planning & Development Board. Cortland County’s unique placement allows the County to benefit from membership in both agencies. Judiciary & Public Safety: (Oct. 8 at 11 a.m. – Rm. 304) • The Committee will consider adoption of the County’s newly drafted Comprehensive Emergency Management Policy, which provides a blueprint for County operations in emergency situations. • During development of the CEMP (above) it was determined that the County must also update its Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) and a County "Continuity of Government Plan (COGP). The Committee will consider hiring a consultant to complete these documents. Budget & Finance Committee: (Oct. 4 at 10 a.m. – Rm. 304) • Peggy Mousaw, Director of Budget & Finance, will present the Committee with the 2016 Tentative Budget. Subsequent budget hearings are scheduled for Oct. 19, 20 and 21 in Legislative Chambers.
