Quarterly Bacteriological Water Samples. a. Samples may be taken anytime within each quarter. If the facility is open in any month of a quarter, a bacteriological sample must be taken for that quarter. b. Quarters are: 1st Jan., Feb., Mar. 2nd Apr., May, June 3rd July, Aug., Sept. 4th Oct., Nov., Dec. c. Results must be received in our office by the 10th day after the quarter April 10, July 10, October 10, and January 10). If they are late or a sample is not taken, a Notice of Violation will be issued and a monetary penalty imposed. d. If a sample has an unsatisfactory result (positive for total coliform), call the Health Department immediately and take 3 repeat samples. Also if the Ground Water Rule (GWR) requirements are not meet a raw sample must be taken. 2. Operating Reports: SUBMIT (required for systems with disinfection - chlorinating or UV) a. Chlorine residuals or UV operation must be taken daily and recorded. b. Operating reports must be received in our office by the 10th day of following month. If they are late, a Notice of Violation will be issued and a monetary penalty imposed. 3. Yearly Nitrate Water Sample a. A yearly nitrate sample shall be taken in the 2nd quarter, April, May or June of each year. b. Results must be submitted to our office. If no report is submitted or a sample is not taken, a Notice of Violation will be issued and a monetary penalty imposed. c. If a sample has an unsatisfactory result (higher than 5.0 mg/l), call the Health Department immediately. Instructions will then be given as to what further steps will need to be taken. CERTIFIED LABORATORIES: a NYS Certified Laboratory must be used for all samples. Call our office if you would like to confirm if a lab you wish to use is certified.
