NYS MODULE 4 Vehicle Fires GOAL The candidate, given a complete set of PPE and SCBA, while working as part of a four-member engine company, will extinguish a fire within a vehicle. OBJECTIVES At the completion of this module, the candidate shall: 1. Stretch and operate a charged handline while in complete PPE and activated SCBA; 2. Demonstrate proper tactics and safety concerns when dealing with a vehicle fire; 3. Work and communicate as part of a team; and 4. Extinguish a fire within a vehicle. INSTRUCTOR NOTES Evolutions should be conducted using all three major areas of the vehicle – engine, passenger, and trunk compartments. Forcible entry into vehicles may also be included as part of the exercise. Exercise format and layout is at instructor’s discretion as long as the following parameters are met: 1. Live burn fire training will follow the Training Policy – Live Fire Training (Appendix B-3 NYS Administrative Guide). 2. Safety must be a prime concern. Emphasis shall be on proper donning and use of SCBA and PPE as well as teamwork.
